The University of Missouri invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in Dairy Cattle Nutrition in the Division of Animal Sciences, an academic unit of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. This tenure‐track, 9‐month position will have 55% research, 35% teaching, and 10% service responsibilities. The selected candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized independent and collaborative research program in dairy cattle nutrition that can obtain extramural support. Research emphasis should have both whole‐animal and basic components related to dairy cattle nutrition, which may include ruminal fermentation, nutritional physiology, metabolism, biochemistry, microbiology, and/or growth or lactation biology related to any phase of the dairy industry. Concomitantly the candidate is expected to become involved in collaborative, interdisciplinary projects in the Division and University. The successful candidate will be expected to teach nutrition or dairy cattle‐related courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, while developing and contributing to an active graduate student training program. Excellent research and teaching facilities available include: ruminant nutrition, metabolism, physiology, and molecular laboratory space and equipment; continuous culture and in vitro fermentation systems; Foremost Dairy Research Center with conventional registered Holstein (180 cows) and intensive research barn (tie‐stalls and attached laboratory); and on‐campus abattoir and meat processing facility; Animal Science Research Center with large animal space and fully-equipped surgical facilities for large animals. Additionally, excellent collaborative opportunities exist with the Divisions in the College: Food, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences; Biochemistry; and Plant Science and Technology, as well as the College of Veterinary Medicine, the School of Medicine and other units on campus. The University of Missouri is an AAU member, Carnegie R1 institution, and one of the most comprehensive land grant universities in the nation, including agriculture, veterinary medicine, and human medicine. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in animal science, dairy science, or related field by time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching related to dairy cattle, ideally in an area that will complement existing Division programs
  • Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the various constituency groups of the Missouri and U.S. dairy cattle industries
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding for research, publishing results in appropriate journals, and training graduate students
  • Demonstrated success teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
